The communication efficiency is crucial for a Company. Especially, for providing important information with precision and agility. In the face of such scenario, any noises that might disturb the fluency of such communication must be eliminated.
Noise means every disturbance, which impairs the exchange of messages. Whether it is noticeable or not. Inside an environment of networks monitoring this reality is no different. In other words, a noise in alarms can make its identification difficult. Thus, an excessive amount of alarms badly dimensioned can make the monitoring team to ignore notifications or even losing information that might be really relevant.
Below, we will look at ways of mitigating those alarms noises.
LEVELS OF URGENCY ADEQUATED TO THE ALARMS
Assigning the correct importance to an alarm might prevent noises. This procedure helps in the understanding about which are the most important alarms. Therefore, highlighting the most important warnings. Those alarms are related to problems, with the potential of causing severe failures or even the interruption of some services.
In TRAFip, the user will be able to utilize levels of urgency. For each alarm configured there will be a level of urgency attributed. However, the user can utilize the standard levels or even to configure new ones.
Starting from the version 9.1.0, the user will be able to configure levels of alarm. Therefore, during the creation of an alarm, in its configuration process, the user will be able to define several limits for the firing of the alarm, each one with a different level of urgency.
The levels of urgency will define the color of the alarm when appearing on the console. Another functionality of this configuration is the option to choose if the notification will have a sound alarm or not.
CORRECT LIMITS FOR THE PREVENTION OF NOISES
The alarms are configured based on limits. In other words, when the traffic of a subnetwork, for example, exceeds a certain limit, the alarm will be activated. However, the correct definition of such limits is crucial. Therefore, it is necessary to have the knowledge of the environment for the determination of the appropriate limits for its functioning. As well as what will be the standard behavior of the traffic of the network and what will be considered abnormal traffic.
On TRAFip, these limits are configured on the formulas of the alarms. For the configuration of an alarm of absolute traffic, it is enough to choose the direction, the metric and the limit. For example:
(“Default”.self.bytAb) > 3000000
- “byt” is the metric which makes reference to bits per second.
- “Ab” is the direction that makes reference to the traffic of origin.
- “3000000” is the limit value in bits per second.
Associating this alarm to a subnetwork, for example, when your traffic of origin exceeds the limit value defined, the alarm will be activated. In order to associate alarms to objects, it is enough to create a profile of alarm.
With very low limits, several alerts will be received which could generate noises. Already with high limits, the notification will not arrive before the problem is already too severe. In the face of this scenario, the importance of the understanding about the infrastructure is reinforced for the definition of adequated limits.
TEAMS THAT WILL RECEIVE THE ALERTS
We have already seen that many alerts can be damaging. In this perspective, it is important to guarantee that every type of alarm notifies the right people. Therefore, seeking the screening of the alerts. Consequently, in accordance with the responsibilities of the teams or specific people.
On TRAFip, through users profiles, it will be possible to do associations between created alarms and the users. In this manner, guaranteeing that only certain groups will receive notifications of certain alarms. Primordially, avoiding the flooding of alerts and noises in the communication.
FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
TRAFip is a system of traffic analysis which allows the determining of what, how, when, where and by whom your network is being utilized.
In this way, there are no doubts about the importance of investing on network management. Therefore, bringing not only benefits to the visibility of the network but also being a way to guarantee an agile and proactive IT Team.
Thinking of that, Telcomanager present in the market since 2002, and a leading Latin America brand in the sector of software for managing networks. Also counting with a unique and innovative technology, deploying smart solutions in the monitoring of data that will provide a stratified vision of the traffic, is now allowing your Company to follow the most important aspects of your network, in real time.
